3/18/2010-Sandy Spring Bancorp (NASDAQ:SASR) priced its pending sale of at least 6.5 million shares at .50 apiece, a 9.5% discount to Wednesday’s closing price. Sandy Spring has about 16.6 million shares outstanding. Proceeds from the sale will go toward repaying the million that the bancorp received through the Treasury Department’s Troubled Asset Relief Program and boosting capital at its Sandy Spring Bank, among other things.

3/30/2010- Primerica Inc. is selling shares in an IPO at a discount to its competitors, according to a Bloomberg report. The insurance business plans to raise 2 million tomorrow, according to a SEC filing. At the middle of its price range, Primerica would be valued at 6.74 times earnings after accounting for its planned reorganization. TEAM Financial Asset Management Chief Investment Officer James Daily is quoted as saying, “The Primerica deal reflects a shift from the financial supermarket model, where instead of being good at a lot of things, a company like Citigroup ended up being mediocre at everything. Primerica could fetch a reasonable price. It’s been around a long time, its brand is established.”
